What did you do on the first birthday since your loved one passed away?

Today is the morning of my mums first birthday since she has only recently passed away. I have been trying not to think of this day or Easter, Mothers Day etc so therefore have nothing organised and it makes me feel bad. I will go to the cemetery and put flowers on her grave, but is there anything that you have done for a loved one on their birthday?

My mom passed away three days after her birthday about three years ago, so it is always a very bitter-sweet time (bitter cause we lost her, but sweet cause she lived). On her first birthday after she passed, my entire family got together and had a nice dinner, and remembered the great times we had with her. On Mother's Day, my sister and I always write her a card, attach it to a balloon, and send it on up to heaven for her (sometimes the balloon does not fly so we just keep it for ourselves). On another birthday of hers we baked a cake and had some wine. The best thing to do is not dwell on the fact that she is not there, but to celebrate that you had her in your life for so long. I know this is a really hard time, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you!
